Spectacles, Snapchats Cute New Tech Accessory
Last week Snap Inc. (formerly known as Snapchat) released Spectacles, making this their first step into the wearable world. Spectacles is a pair of cute, cat eye, sunglasses that record real time, hands free, video for their app, Snapchat. They really only do one thing, record video, but supposedly they do that thing well. The sunglasses come in a variety of bright colours that would look funky on anyone!
New Tech Hopes to Help Blind Navigate through World
In ancient Egyptian mythology there was god named Horus. His right eye was white and represented the sun and his left was black representing the moon. According to the myth, Horus lost his left eye during a fight with his uncle to avenge his father’s death. His uncle tore out his eye but lost the fight because the assembly of gods declared Horus the winner. His left eye was restored by another god. The Eye of Horus became a symbol of healing and safety, making it the perfect name for a new wearable device for the blind and visually impaired.
UBC Creates Cool Tech to Help Preserve Languages
It’s not wearable tech, per say, but it’s pretty darn cool technology. I struggle with learning other languages and I know I’m not alone in that. From butchering my way through pronouncing french words, in my beginners French course, to butchering my own mother tongue of Amharic (sorry grandma). I have many friends who also struggle picking up a language either their own or one they want to learn just because.

FashionTech on the Runway at MakerFaire Shenzhen
A few members of our team recently attended MakerFaire Shenzhen, sponsored by our friends at Seeedstudios. During our visit, our team created a number of brand new wearable technology garments. We also produced a massive runway show at Shenzhen’s Seaworld.

ANT+ Wireless Symposium
Last week we at MakeFashion were invited to attend the ANT+ Wireless Symposium in Banff. There we hosted a mini fashion show with two pieces from our previous shows, two brand new fashion tech pieces, as well as an interactive installation using ANT+ technology.
